Have I mentioned what I got for Christmas yet?

Oh yes, it's real.  All too real.

My very funny sister-in-law Sarah works at Barnes & Noble and said the moment she spotted this on the shelf, "It screamed 'Mary'!"  Then she paused, laughed and said, "I mean your sense of humor, not that I think you're a crazy cat lady."  Whew.  I won't lie, that was a relief.

(You realize this means I'm going to have to make her some horrifying cat hair-esque ornament for her Christmas tree next year in retaliation, right?  I mean, it'd just be so much more thoughtful than a regular, boring old thank-you note...)

The embrace of frosty doom.

It's been well-documented here that I live for danger.  So when my coworker/co-conspirator/compatriot David expressed interest in crossing the ice road to Madeline Island for the first time, I was all, "Sure, let's go!   Don't be scared, it's good, solid ice and they check it all the time, it'll be fiiiine."

(Apparently I've toughened up some since the last time I went across.)

So, last Saturday afternoon, off we went with David at the wheel, me riding shotgun (like a modern-day Sacajawea), and his husband & kiddo in the backseat.  Adventure!

For a couple of southerners (if by "southerners" you mean "people from Appleton"), they're really acclimating quite nicely to our more laissez-faire embrace of frosty doom.

(P.S.  I totally stole some of these pictures from David.  Thanks, David!)

Yet another hat!  This one's slouchy.  I dig it and will make more.

What's making me happy this week.

Paul Rudd is the bee's knees.

Another hat!  A green hat!  I needed a pattern to use up some thicker yarn and this fit the bill.  Maybe not the warmest hat ever, given all the holes, but hey -- some people like a bit of ventilation, right?

What's making me happy this week.

Tonight, while at my coworker David's house to watch the season premiere of RuPaul's Drag Race (halleloooooo!), my mother called his cell phone and left a voice mail that went a little something like this:

"Oh, hi, Mary?  You left this number in case of an emergency.  Well, could you call home when you get this and help me & your dad figure out the VCR?  The nuns are here and want us to tape that show about the Pope on Frontline for them."

David laughed 'til he almost cried and said, "Most people exaggerate when they talk about their parents, but now I see that you haven't."
