My monthly mea culpa.

I've been a bad blogger lately, I know.  Work is nuts -- great, but nuts -- and even though at the end of each week I tell myself "this weekend, I'm going to write something for the blog," before I know it, it's Sunday night again.  Lather, rinse, repeat, and a month's gone by, and I'm behind again.  (Hence, me scrambling to throw a bunch of stuff up at the end of each month, like tonight.  The guilt!)

Anyway:  the next two weeks will be particularly crazy, with tons of stuff happening at work, plus the 4th of July, my friend Emily & family visiting from Montana, my mother's birthday and the Bob Dylan concert I'm escorting her to in Duluth...whew.  I'm tired already and it hasn't even happened yet.  But, I swear, I'll do better here soon.

In the meantime -- pictures! Because even though I suck at updating the blog, I am somehow managing to remember to take a picture every day.

Baby hat.

To go with this:

June 14.

Which is a pattern I've done before, so alas, I can't pad my 13-in-2013 count with it.

But, at least all this gave me the opportunity to do this:

Toivo models.

You've been flocked!

Spotted on a lawn in Superior yesterday:

("You've been flocked by the SHS Dance Team!")

Police blotter.

Thursday, 4:24 A.M.:  Officer made contact with a half-naked male who was screaming profanities at himself. He was advised to stop doing that.

Saturday, 11:43 P.M.: Caller states she needs a ride home because her friends ditched her and “bad things happen to her in the dark.”

Monday, 6:12 P.M.: 911 open air call, sounded like someone walking and talking about pirates.

Wednesday, 11:53 A.M.: Caller has dialed 911 again, states she is calling because her phone isn't working properly and she's had to use other people's phones.  Dispatch advised caller that this isn't relevant to 911 or law enforcement in general, and advised caller not to call 911 unless there is an emergency. Caller then said there was a crime committed because dispatcher was "judging her."

What's making me happy this week.

I was flipping through the channels tonight and landed on this:

Well, not the promo (ugh, the annoying voiceover!), but one of the actual cartoons.  And I really liked it. Funny, a little irreverent, and the backgrounds are gorgeous.

You can watch two of the shorts here (they're also on YouTube, but not as "official" Disney postings so I didn't want to embed any here since they'll probably get taken down), and you can read more about their rebirth here.

There's tenacity, and then there's just being stupid.

Sometime last month, a robin started building a nest above one of the birdhouses on the garage.  This wasn't anything out of the ordinary -- we've had robins build nest on top of those birdhouses for years.  But this particular robin decided to build her nest on top of a beehive, hung precariously above one of the birdhouses as a decoration...it looked shaky from the start and we tried to shoo her away, but she wouldn't hear of it and kept right on building it.

And then: tragedy struck.

June 2.

The beehive tipped over -- the nest didn't fall off, but the babies fell out & they didn't make it.  We found them on the ground before any critters wandering through the yard made off with them, and gave them a dignified burial in one of the flowerbeds.  There was much sadness for Mrs. Robin in her time of loss.

Until today, when we saw her doing this:

June 25.

Yeah, she's building another nest...on top of the tipped-over beehive.  Which is still totally unstable (we left it there on purpose, to discourage her from trying again in that spot).  Hundreds of trees in the yard -- hell, more birdhouses on the side of that very same garage! -- and she's back in the same spot.  Dummy.

Bless you, Mad Men.  (And the many kind people who've uploaded this to the interweb.)

It's a trap!

May 29.

No, it's Owen's birthday present.

Such an awesome pattern.  I might have to go back sometime and get the full Star Wars set.

Admiral Ackbar.

Oh -- and this, too.

Birthday doll for Aine!

Elf doll.

I love this pattern -- so much so that I went back and bought some more from that Etsy shop.  I predict I'll be making more of these...

Hungry Hungry Toivo: Diet Update, Week Two.

Guess who went in for his first biweekly weigh-in at the vet today?

June 1.

And guess who's down 1.2 pounds already?

Yep, our little butterball's down to 21 pounds.  If he keeps this up this pace, it won't be long before we won't be able to call him our Twenty Pounds of Love anymore.
